Sistas Organizing to Survive (SOS) Rolls Out the Red Carpet Hosts Premier of Documentary Film “Black as AIDS”
ORLANDO – Three years ago, more than 300 black women from across the state of Florida, gathered to raise their voices in unity and take action to address the deplorable rates of HIV/AIDS among black women. Their goals included taking a pledge to get tested for HIV, encouraging other black women to get tested and educating black women where they live, work, play and worship about HIV/AIDS. At that time, the Sistas Organizing to Survive (SOS) grassroots movement was born.
On Thursday, June 23, 2011, from 6pm-10pm, in the Darden Theatre at the Orlando Science Center, Orlando’s SOS Action Committee will recognize the anniversary initiative by hosting the premier showing of the documentary film “Black as AIDS” written and directed by Bryan Boykins before it takes its tour of film festivals around the US. This film takes an in-depth, emotional look into HIV/AIDS with first hand testimonials from those affected in our own community as they share their struggles, coping methods and regrets.
While HIV/AIDS attacks black women at a higher rate than any other demographic, the message in this film transcends all demographics. Writer/Director Bryan Boykins said, “Black as AIDS” is important to all because everyone is at risk. This film explores the HIV/AIDS epidemic in a way that is entertaining and more importantly, informative.”
Boykins had his own revelation during the research and filming stage of this film. Boykins adds, “The ‘Aha’ moment I discovered is documented in the film. Although skeptical, it revolves around a potential AIDS cure. You’ll have to wait until June 23rd to see what it is.”
The second highlight of the evening will be the presentation of the committee’s SOS Award. This year, the committee recognizes Orlando City Commissioner Samuel B. Ings, for his support, dedication and commitment to the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS among black women.
For more than 16 years, HIV/AIDS has been the leading cause of death among black women aged 25-44 years in Florida. To reserve FREE Ticket(s) or to receive your press passes call Linda Bailey, 407-844-6486 or Karen Wint, 407-858-1217

Hiring our grassroots marketing team to distribute your flyers and post your posters can make you sexy
Psych! Not really. I just couldn’t seem to come up with a good title for this post. However, if you’re handing out posters and holding in your tummy while breathing like you’re exercising, then maybe, just maybe you’ll look hot. At our grassroots marketing firm, we have a blast! Not only out on the streets and at events around town, but in the office as well. We spend a lot of time talking about what we think can make our team better and how we can do more with clients that really have less to work with. No matter the size of your business, you are in business to grow that entity and make it a key player in your industry. We want to help you do that. From increasing ticket sales, to increasing more case sales into grocery stores, we intend to be a significant part of your marketing plan and want to gain your trust and support not just once but over and over again…and repeat business for us means repeat business for you! Now, that’s hot!
Reconnect even deeper with your customers and give your sales a boost!
One of our favorite clients took her time in developing a door-to-door campaign and really made used grassroots marketing and street team work to get the word out about season ticket sales. She took the time to pull together a campaign that not only allowed us to distribute information in targeted areas it also gave the consumer a little bit more. She made us of MS Tags. MS tags are little images that you can find in magazines, on flyers, etc. The tag looks a little like a funky, retro barcode type thingy. However, when you use your smart phone to scan the image, it links you shows an advertisement, discount or special deal for your product or service. Pretty cool, huh? You bet it is! Don’t just pull together some old simple grassroots campaign. Get into the groove and get the most out of your marketing dollars and efforts. Give Creative Street Marketing and Public Relations Group a call today and ask how we can help.
Grassroots marketing is more powerful than you think!
It’s not easy to convince consumers that you have the best products and services on the market. At one time you only had to convince people within your local area, but today, products and even services are sold online at very competitive rates. When starting a marketing program for your event or business always know the power of the nuts and bolts of every advertising campaign. Many clients are amazed at how effective grassroots marketing can be and how much they have overlooked the power of it. Never hesitate to go right where your target demo is and provide them with the best “hook” possible. Radio, television and print advertising are all traditional ways of reaching consumers however never forget about the power of the very basics of marketing and advertising.
